his year’s WSL Australian Longboard
Surfing Open (ALSO) is shaping up to be
the biggest yet, with international competitors,
both the current world champions, former
champs and style masters all headed for
Australia’s richest longboarding competition
- to be held at Kingscliff late in March.
On the back of a recent growth spurt in the
sport, this year the organisers are pushing
for expansion and collaboration into the
rapidly growing Asian longboarding scene and want to ultimately become the region’s
premiere pro longboarding event - to be
known as the ‘Longboard Surfing Festival of
the Asia Pacific’.
“There is a strong growth in longboard surfing
in the Asia Pacific region and it is an optimal
market for expansion and recognising the
potential in competitors and visitors from this
region,” said Sean McKeown, Event
Director.
