a 4’2’’ or something like that. They’re kind of
like a flat ... it’s like a Mini Simmons I guess,
but they’re a little bit more of a bodyboard
shape on the nose and I just got him to
stretch one a bit longer for me to about 5’6’’.
It’s got a lot of foam in it but I didn’t mind it
being a bit bigger and it goes in any waves
from tiny little knee-high to ... good through
barrels and stuff like that. They just go really
fast, sort of similar to finless surfing I guess,
but with a little bit more control having a
slight twin fin set up.”
Would you say Burleigh is your main joint
then?
“Yeah if it’s good, that’s probably my number
one stop. I grew up in that area and that’s
definitely one of my favourite point breaks
on the Gold Coast - if it’s on and I’m in the
vicinity I’ll definitely be there.”
You used to do a lot of comps right? Not
as many these days - why is that?
“I guess I dropped off the scene there for
a bit, I was a bit disillusioned with where
longboarding was going, with where it was
headed, I went well for a while and ... I mean
obviously it wasn’t a good career option for
me. I wanted to kind of get out there and,
now I’ve finished my apprenticeship and I’m
moving through my career in construction
so, and that’s taken me in different directions
as well. I still surf as much as possible, but
I don’t really want to chase the contests
sometimes, I think I’d rather take my time off
to go and find good waves not grovel in some
other comp so to speak. But I still enjoy it, I
