ASH GRUNWALD // Now
(Sept 25, Footstomp Music)
Using plenty of innovative technique and having
the prowess of producer Nick Didia (Pearl Jam/
Springsteen/Rage Against the Machine), Ash recorded
this - his eighth album - at studio 301 in his home town
of Byron Bay. He delivers what he calls a “modern
psychedelic, sci-fi, swamp rock, blues album, if there
is such a thing. HA!” Plus there’s a tour to kick it all off
with a bang, taking in the Caloundra Music Festival on
Oct 3, Brisbane’s The Triffid on Oct 16, Hotel Metropole
in Ipswich Oct 17, and the GC’s Miami Marketta Oct 18.
FAT BOY SLIM // The Fat Boy Slim Collection
(Out now, Sony Music)
He once lost his shit whilst playing in front of thousands
of Gold Coasters in the pissing rain at some festival at
Parklands we can’t remember the name of, he’s sold
over 5 million records in the UK alone, but right here,
right now, Norman Cook AKA Fatboy Slim brings his
personal pick of his best tracks of all time. You can’t
escape the bounce with this one, including his take on
Beastie Boys’ Body Movin’, Groove Armada’s I See You
Baby and The Chemical Brothers’ Block Rockin’ Beats.
KEITH RICHARDS // Crosseyed Heart
(Sept 18, Virgin EMI)
Keith Richards is wearing sunnies and sucking on a
ciggy in his promo photo for his third solo album and
the first in over 20 years, which pretty much says it
all. He’s going to outlive us all, which is all the more
reason why this release rocks. Suck down the 15 tracks
from this album that explore the appeal of everything
from reggae and rock to country and blues, with Keith
singing as well as playing electric and acoustic guitars,
bass and piano on the album.
