TEACHER FEATURE (continued from p. 2)
Meet Mrs. Jennifer Brey
In addition to that, Mrs. Snellenberger had become a close friend, prayer partner, and walking buddy. She shared her experiences at CCS with me. As we talked and prayed for Cornerstone, I became more interested in the school. God's timing in this was truly amazing. I went into it genuinely praying for God to open and close doors and clarify what he wanted me to do. I didn't have time to prepare for the interview (it happened much more quickly than anticipated), so I trusted Jesus to lead me. By the time the process was finished, and I was offere the position, I felt confident this was where God wanted me, and He would help and guide me as I dove into a new job after 22 years of staying home with my children. Seeing God working in this school, in my girls and me, and in my students has been a fantastic blessing.
Q: What is your favorite thing about being a teacher at CCS?
I enjoy getting to see so many different-aged kids. I love getting to know the young ones all the way up to high school. I love getting hugs from the little ones and getting to hand out with the older kids, too.
Q: What advice would you give to a first-year teacher?
Pray a lot! It's been helpful to watch other teachers. And give yourself grace. I'm learning to tell myself, "It didn't work out today, and that's okay. I'm learning and moving on." I'm constantly learning and reading about what's appropriate for each age level and preparing games for them. You wouldn't think that a lot goes into teaching how to throw a ball, but there are a lot of techniques and steps that go into teaching that skill. My husband is always telling me, "Just have fun with it!" I just want to have fun with these kids.
Q: What do you like to do?
I love hanging out with my three dogs. We have a small, a medium, and a large dog. Walking my dogs is one of my favorite things to do. I also love playing volleyball and reading.
