Ski Club 2022

CCS Senior's Missions Trip to Africa

Ski Club 2022 was conquered by 17 enthusiastic middle and high schoolers and lots of fresh snow this winter!  This year's club was a mix of brand new and experienced skiers and snowboarders. Each Wednesday we loaded gear into Mr. Yoreo's truck and carpooled to Ski Sundown in New Hartford. After grabbing a table in the lodge and quickly changing into snow clothes, some Ski Club students headed out for their lessons while others hit the slopes. Everyone came in and out of the lodge when they were ready to warm up, take a break, and grab a bite to eat.  The french fries from the Ski Sundown cafeteria were a club favorite!  Special thanks to the Yoreos for helping make this happen again at CCS.  Let it snow!

I was given the incredible opportunity to go to Zambia, Africa, for two weeks (Dec/Jan). I went with an organization called Africa Freedom Missions. A team of 31 people with different stories and personalities flew overseas together for one reason: To go and make disciples.

We left from Washington, D.C., on December 26th and arrived in Africa on the 28th! While there, we partnered with local organizations to spread the Gospel. We worked every day with the kids who were living on the streets of Lusaka. Our teams went out each day and shared the name of Jesus with people who had never heard of Him. The Holy Spirit was so evident in our group as he used us in the most beautiful ways. We saw countless healings, salvation, and miracles. The Lord touched not only the people we were with, but He also touched each and every one of our team members!

We were connected with four different ministries. One of them was a compound run by Christians who helped provide a safe place for kids who have run away and now live on the streets. There they built communities with the other boys and received the help they needed. The second organization we were with is called Footprints. With them, we drove into the inner city of Lusaka, played with the kids, and walked door to door sharing Jesus with them. We also worked with a church called Crown of Life.  Together with Crown of Life, we visited door to door in the local villages and prayed for people along the way. We also got to see people healed and many people saved. The last two days we were there, we went to Livingstone and saw Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. We bungee jumped off the tallest bridge in Africa, and we went on a safari.

This trip was an incredible experience, and the Lord touched me and taught me more things than I could have ever imagined. The two weeks that I spent in Africa seemed unreal. I still do not fully have words to describe it, and I don't know if I ever will.  There is something so personal and intimate with the Lord about that. I also discovered my new favorite thing—telling people about Jesus—and I never want to stop doing it! I deeply desire to see the nations impacted by the love of Jesus Christ. It is all about His gain and glory, and not my own!
