Celebrities often lend their support to charities and campaigns , but few have as strong a link with the cause they are spruiking as Penny McNamee . You might recognise Penny from TV show Home & Away , but few would know that Penny has a strong family link with The Shepherd Centre , who provide support to children with hearing loss . You can read more about Penny ’ s story and the work of the Centre on page 24 .

In this edition we also meet motocross rider and daredevil Andy Hensel , who wants to encourage people with disability to live life to
the full . In our Vision and Hearing Impairment feature you ’ ll meet a man who has trained to be an ocularist to help his daughter ’ s vision impairment , as well as Sunshine Coast artist , Nathan Taylor . We also visit the Victorian College for the Deaf and find out what it ’ s like to be an Auslan interpreter .
In other news , this edition of Link is my last as editor . It has been a privilege to edit the magazine , and to write about so many interesting people and important issues , over the past three years . Likewise , it ’ s been a pleasure to work with the team at Inprint Design , particularly our advertising whiz Michelle and graphic design gurus Annabel and Rachel . Thanks also to our valued freelance writers , particularly Marlena Katene , Anthea Skinner and Carole Lander , along with Amy Park who has been an amazing help this year .
I ’ m delighted to hand the reigns over to new editor Kelly Stone . Having got to know Kelly over the past few weeks I ’ m confident that Link is in excellent hands and encourage you to make contact with her in the near future .
To mark my last edition I ’ ve pulled out my favourite covers from the past three years . It was a tough choice , but I love these three for their subject matter and the way they challenge stereotypes of disability . There ’ s the gorgeous actress Sarah Gordy ; the wise and tolerant Gill Hicks and the cheeky ( and a little risqué ) performer Mat Fraser .
Finally , enjoy reading this edition and be sure to touch base with the Link team by emailing editor @ linkonline . com . au or interacting with us on Facebook . Farewell and good luck .
