A bust of Abraham Lincoln by American artist Sarah Fisher Ames ( 1817-1901 ) is in the collection at WCMA and will be on exhibit in the fall . A 360 ° video of the sculpture can be viewed on YouTube . Ames executed at least five busts of Lincoln , one of which is in the collection of the U . S . Senate . During the Civil War , Ames volunteered as a nurse in Washington , D . C ., where she came to know and sculpt Lincoln . Ames ’ family ended up in Williamstown , and this gift was the centerpiece of the first exhibition at WCMA .

The Lincoln Trilogy ( The American Spirit ), 1939 , by sculptor Clyde du Vernet Hunt is on view outside the museum . The sculpture features a standing figure of Abraham Lincoln with a young woman and a little boy , personifications of “ Nirvana ” and “ Young America .”

Hildene was built in 1905 by President Abraham Lincoln ’ s son and Pullman Company president Robert Todd Lincoln . ( In 1922 , Robert took part in the dedication ceremonies for the Lincoln Memorial .) The 412-acre estate includes the Lincoln family ’ s Georgian Revival home and “ The American Ideal ,” an exhibition on Lincoln ’ s Second Inaugural Address ; formal , cutting , and kitchen gardens ; 1903 Pullman Palace railcar “ Sunbeam ;” and the “ Many Voices ” exhibition ( the southernmost stop on the Vermont African American Heritage Trail ); and more .
