In our country we measure performance in different ways . It ’ s not all about growth . It ’ s a combination of traits that starts with fertility and calving-ease which then allows us to measure weaning and yearling weights . If a cow is still in production on our ranch at 12-years-old you can bet she has done a lot of things right . She has had to breed back and raise a marketable calf every year in big , open country where she has to go out and forage . Our bulls are required to work and perform under the same conditions .
