PRESIDENT ’ S MESSAGE

Greetings to All ,
As we prepare for fall weaning , harvest and breeding , this is one of the most beautiful times of the year as us Limousin breeders and Agricultural providers see the fruits of our labor from this past year . So much work goes into the production of high quality seedstock cattle with additional effort on data capture and record keeping , enabling us to offer tremendous cattle to our customers . It takes special folks to become seedstock cattle breeders . Achieving this during a time of increased production cost is commendable and very much appreciated .
It finally rained on the South Plains of Texas ( so I trust it must have rained everywhere ). We certainly want to thank the Lord above for sending this moisture for the land . Times like this drive home the importance of having efficient cattle that can still thrive in adverse conditions and still help keep a cattle producer in business with least cost production practices . I can not think of a better breed to do this than Limousin and Lim-Flex ® cattle .
Your NALF board had a productive and successful board meeting in August ! I would like to personally thank my fellow board members and our NALF staff for their sincere dedication to our NALF membership ! We are working toward continual improvement on production-oriented EPDs and indices that are industry relevant and critical to least cost production practices which will help us make superior genetics moving forward .
Look for changes from the NALF office to be announced in the near future designed to assist our membership record their registrations as well as recording of their individual performance data . Additionally , the commercial marketing budget the NALF board has approved is comprised of a balance of digital and print advertising for breed promotion that most effectively covers the nation ’ s commercial cow operations given the dollars we have to work with . We will also continue to utilize our social media venues , electronic marketing outlets and industry press releases to get the word out about our cattle .
I also want to remind our membership as you prepare to make your fall A . I . matings that there is a tool you can use on DigitalBeef that will help you to determine the EPDs and breed percentage matings from individual sires . This is available under the “ Tool ” window , then go to the mating projection calculator . If you need more information , feel free to contact a NALF staff member and they will be glad to walk you through the process .
I look forward to seeing each of you in Oklahoma City at Cattlemen ’ s Congress and the NALF Annual Meeting , National Sale and Genetics On Ice Benefit Auction .
