It ’ s truly a family affair for the Freed family of Fairbury , Illinois . Freed Show Cattle has been a top level breeder of Limousin genetics for many decades . Ron and his wife , Deborah , along with their son , Jon , his wife Rebecca , and their four sons , Cade , Ty , Brock and Trace are all involved in the cattle operation . Ron and his son , Jon are familiar faces in the Limousin breed , having shown all over the country for years and attending many sales each year as well .
Today , the Freed family has an elite herd of approximately 50 Limousin and Lim-Flex cows at their farm east of Peoria and south of Chicago . Freed Show Cattle primarily markets high-end Limousin and Lim-Flex show heifer prospects across the country through a variety of consignment sales , online events and private treaty sales . With the Limousin breed picking up momentum nationwide , especially within show arenas , the Freeds have decided this will be their primary market of choice for their top-level female genetics .
Ron and his late brother , Randy , started approximately 40 years ago with the purchase of their first Limousin bull . Today , Ron and Jon have implemented a strong embryo transfer program to propagate

their elite show heifer genetics . Their top females are based around LLJB Absolute Style 3056A , Riverstone Charmed and MAGS Wassail . Recently , Freed Show Cattle acquired SSTO Guns N ’ Roses and have had excellent response from fellow breeders wishing to incorporate him into their respective breeding programs .
Freed Show Cattle has a rich history within the Limousin breed , especially with the relationships they ’ ve fostered over the years . For Ron , a mentor for many years has been Mark Smith of Grassroots Genetics . “ When I need advice , he ’ s always been there for me ,” Ron said .
“ I ’ ve known Ron and his family since Jon was young . They have always liked not only the cattle , but also the Limousin people . Their ongoing operation is fun to watch . Ron and I now just sit back and enjoy watching the next generation carry on ,” Smith explained .
