Recent Updates to IGS Genetic Evaluation
While it may have seemed like much of the world slowed down in 2020 , that was not the case for the International Genetic Solutions ( IGS ) genetic evaluation , from which NALF EPD are derived . For this edition , I ’ ll take a flash back to the updates and changes that have been made in the last year , some of which we ’ ve discussed before , some of which are new .
August 2020
The most expansive change was made in August , the much awaited update to evaluation for growth traits , was finally released to the world . This was a much-needed , major overhaul that was referred to as WO1 and the changes made with this update caused a shift in breed averages and percentile ranks . Changes included : 1 ) Setting the genetic correlation between weaning weight maternal
( milk ) and weaning weight direct to 0 2 ) Removing genomic marker effects for Milk 3 ) Selecting a new DNA Marker Subset 4 ) Including different variances for males vs . females 5 ) Accounting for different collection methods for birth weight
