PRESIDENT ’ S MESSAGE

by Curt Wieczorek

Greetings and welcome to the Spring Sale Edition of Limousin

365 . By the time you read this 2020 will finally be in the rearview mirror and I will be completing my final year as an elected director as well as my term as president . Six years ago , as I began my first term as a director , my goal was simple , serve the membership to the best of my ability and always vote for what is in the best interest of the breed regardless of how it may affect me personally . I had no illusions of serving in leadership within the board structure , let alone being elected president . In fact , I remember a conversation with Warren Symens while waiting for a flight back from a meeting early in Brett Begert ’ s first year as president . I was relieved to learn that it was possible for a director to serve as president for two years

instead of needing someone from each class to serve their last year , as I was the only person in my class . The thought that I may be called on to be president was rather terrifying to me at that time and remained that way right up until the time the board voted me into that position .
You are probably wondering why I am telling you this . I ’ ll get back to that in a minute . First let me say that any organization is only as strong as its membership and I firmly believe that if the organization is important to you , then you should be willing to take your turn and help steer the ship when called upon . If we all sit back and wait for someone else to do it , the organization suffers . During the past year I have had numerous conversations with people saying things like “ I ’ m glad it ’ s you and not me ” or “ that wouldn ’ t be my cup of tea ” or “ I could never do that .” So why have I shared this with you ?
To communicate to you that you aren ’ t the only one that feels this way from time to time , and that in no way should those feelings disqualify you from taking your turn . Yes , there are times the task at hand seems somewhat overwhelming . Just don ’ t stay there , seek council from those who have gone before you , formulate a plan and move forward . Maybe start by volunteering to serve on one of the committees and see where it goes from there .
As we get to the start of the new year , the newly elected NALF president will be making appointments to the various committees and his job would be easier if there were people stepping up to get involved . Or maybe it ’ s your state , local or regional association that needs your involvement . If we sit idle , we risk the viability of these organizations . If they wither and eventually die , then what ? It may get you out of your comfort zone , but it will be well worth it . As I reflect back on these last six years , I can honestly say I wouldn ’ t trade the experience for anything .
Success and blessings .
