Junior Perspective New Beginnings By Lindsey Gulotta, NALJA board of directors Hello everyone! I hope the spring season has brought as much happiness to you and your families as it does to mine. With the new season, we welcome a new calf crop, maybe a new herd bull, and a rebirth of all things in nature. If you are a student you have many opportunities in front of you and decisions to make. The older I get, the more I realize that the decisions I am making today will have an impact on the remainder of my life. My decision to attend Louisiana State University, major in Animal Science with a concentration in Pre-Veterinary Medicine was one of them. I decided at that time to dedicate all my time and resources to preparing myself for applying to vet school, I want to know that I did everything in my power to have my best opportunity to be accepted. Being in college, juggling classes, a social life, show cattle, clubs and organizations is not easy. With faith, family, and friends, I know all of our dreams are within reach. I never would 36 | APRIL 2018 have imagined I would be on the junior board, but getting out of my comfort zone, and making the decision to be myself and a little more outgoing, gave me the greatest opportunity I’ve ever been blessed with. Juniors, I hope you cease every opportunity you are faced with. I used to be the poster child of making the decision to not participate and take advantage of opportunities. Making the decision to try new things and accept challenges could lead you to things that you never thought possible. Just like the beginning of spring, it could be your rebirth. This spring, I hope our Limousin breeders can be proud of what got them where they are today, and that our juniors can make great decisions based on the opportunities placed in front of them. Run for the board, strive for an “A” in that impossible class, and be the best possible version of YOURSELF you can be! “It is in your moments of decision that your destiny is shaped.” – Tony Robbins I NALJA Board of Directors President: Ethan Freund, CO [email protected] 303-502-4605 Vice President: Callie Hicks, KY [email protected] 859-699-3893 Secretary: Randa Taylor, TX [email protected] 817-504-6927 Treasurer: Dominic Ruppert, IL [email protected] 217-254-2558 Ex-Officio: Anna Johnson, MN [email protected] 218-640-1117 Director: Katie Hurt, KY [email protected] 859-475-7510 Director: Aaron Linhart, IA [email protected] 641-414-5060 Director: Lindsey Gulotta, LA [email protected] 985-351-7674 Director: Hannah Ziegler, OH [email protected] 419-618-2441 Director: Brooke Falk, KS [email protected] 785-817-2214 Staff Advisor: Katie Campbell [email protected], 913-683-1415
