“ We calve late March through April. The calves average 600- 700 pounds when we sell in November. The Limousin and Lim-Flex ® females calve easy, are gentle, and highly fertile to breed back right away. Plus they remain productive in our herd. We think they are the way to go.” – Charlie Carnahan, rancher, Kiowa, Colorado
President’ s Message
Limousin Gets Better and Better
By Bret Begert, NALF president
Welcome to the August 2017 edition of LIMOUSIN TODAY ®. I hope this finds each of you having a great summer.
As I write this article, I am fresh off an inspiring week in Grand Island, Nebraska. The National Junior Limousin Show & Congress and the All-American Limousin Futurity was, again, a huge success. My hat is off to the Heartland Limousin Association for hosting this successful event. You did your usual great job of providing hospitality, delicious meals, and a fun, upbeat atmosphere. My love of the Limousin breed grows each time we all get together and I am able to analyze the quality cattle in our breed from all over the nation. Limousin just keeps getting better and better. It is always nice to renew old friendships and catch up on the happenings in everyone’ s lives.
It is equally satisfying to make new lifelong friendships. The quality of folks in our Limousin family amazes me.
The highlight of the week was definitely watching our junior members work as they showed cattle, participated in satellite events, built relationships, and got a grip on life. I can think of no other program that prepares young people to be good, productive citizens in society than NALJA. The state of“ our” youth is STRONG!!!
Again, many thanks to Heartland Limousin Association, Dean and Bev Summerbell, Show Chair Brenda Anderson, and ALL the volunteers that made the week so special. Also, thanks so much to the NALF staff for the many hours of work to make the show possible. We appreciate all of you.
The NALF Board of Directors meeting will be held in Denver, August 10-12, 2017. As always, contact NALF staff or any board member with input.
Have a great remainder of summer!!! I
