Executive Summary Given the new “Suggested Mating Targets” recently published by NALF, the next step that many NALF breeders are using when they try to search for sires or females to improve upon their EPDs is the search tool used in DigitalBeef under the “Animal” tab which will then display the “EPD Search Parameter” Tab. This process lets members refine their search for prospective sires and females to utilize in their herd. Minimums, maximums and accuracies can be entered and the EPD can be tabbed to sort and rank by on the button below the trait as the report is generated. This search tool also lets the breeder set the parameters for sex, parents or non-parents, along with the classification of Fullbloods, Purebreds or Lim-Flex cattle in your search. Additionally, the homozygous traits can be selected for on horn/polled and coat color in the query. Yes, it may take some time and effort to set your parameters and make your entries in your search for cattle that can potentially improve your EPD set on your own cowherd, but it is definitely worth the time.
