Executive Summary
Given the new “Suggested Mating Targets”
recently published by NALF, the next step that
many NALF breeders are using when they try
to search for sires or females to improve upon
their EPDs is the search tool used in DigitalBeef
under the “Animal” tab which will then display
the “EPD Search Parameter” Tab. This process
lets members refine their search for prospective
sires and females to utilize in their herd.
Minimums, maximums and accuracies can be
entered and the EPD can be tabbed to sort and
rank by on the button below the trait as the
report is generated. This search tool also lets
the breeder set the parameters for sex, parents
or non-parents, along with the classification of
Fullbloods, Purebreds or Lim-Flex cattle in your
search. Additionally, the homozygous traits can
be selected for on horn/polled and coat color in
the query. Yes, it may take some time and effort
to set your parameters and make your entries
in your search for cattle that can potentially
improve your EPD set on your own cowherd,
but it is definitely worth the time. If you’re not

utilizing it, there are many members that are
as they look to advance their genetic offerings
through the tools, we now have available.
The generated report will then be displayed to
list and rank candidates on the screen. Once the
report is generated, it can also be exported to
an Excel spreadsheet to save on your computer
for future use or printed out to analyze even
further. If you have any questions about utilizing
these tools in the DigitalBeef system, please
give us a call at the NALF office at any time.
At the time of this writing we have just
completed the move of the NALF office to a
new location in Aurora, Colo. that better fits our
needs from a space and cost standpoint. Make
note of the new address at 6205 South Main
Street, Suite D-280, Aurora, Colorado 80016-
5370 as you send DNA and correspondence
to the NALF office. The NALF board and staff
look forward to serving the membership that
breeds and propagates Limousin and Lim-
Flex genetics throughout the United States for
usage to the commercial cattle industry. I
