PRESIDENT ’ S MESSAGE

by Bruce Lawrence

I would like to start off by thanking my fellow board members and the NALF membership for the opportunity to serve as your 2022 NALF President . NALF started the new year off with one of the largest shows in recent times at the 2022 Cattlemen ’ s Congress . Paula and I also traveled to NWSS in Denver after the OKC event and enjoyed the opportunity to visit with exhibitors . I would like to also thank the NALF membership for their support in a very successful Genetics On Ice benefit Auction to benefit the North American Limousin Junior Association ( NALJA ) at the 2022 Cattlemen ’ s Congress .

While we are talking NALJA , the state of Texas is making preparations to host the Texas Two-Step , the 2022 National Junior Limousin Show & Congress in Amarillo , Texas , on June 25 through July 1 . I would like to take this opportunity to invite each and every one of you to Amarillo to be a part of this great event .
The NALF board and staff are very excited about the NALF Research project that we have been planning the last 15 months . If all goes as planned , NALF will A . I . approximately 450 black , commercial Angus cows on two different ranches in Northwest Montana . We will be working with South Dakota State University to purchase and feed the resulting progeny from this A . I . project . Our staff will work with the South Dakota State University staff in documenting feed conversion and carcass data , along with other information to document the value of using Limousin genetics .
If you are interested in making a tax-free donation to the NALF Research Fund ( NALRF ), please visit NALF . org for more information or contact Mark Anderson at the NALF office . We hope to document the benefits of using Limousin genetics with this program . NALF has been in operation for more than 50 years ; this is the very first time third-party research will be conducted that is under the association umbrella . The current board is focused on the targeted investment we are making to promote our cattle through private donations in addition to NALF re-investing some of the profits of the past two years of operations .
Hopefully calving season has been a success this Spring for all of our membership . High input cost with feed , fuel prices and additional production expense items continues to make us operate in a challenging environment . Most of us directly involved in the production of Limousin seedstock realize how we have improved the genetics we offer to the commercial cattle industry . It is the intent of
our NALF board to promote those advantages to commercial cattle operations throughout the country with our expanded commercial advertising budget .
As I am writing this letter , Spring bull sale season is off to an excellent start . I would encourage everyone to attend as many sales as possible to visit with your fellow Limousin breeders and support these breeders with your attendance .
In closing , I would like to take this opportunity to thank our staff on a very successful 2021 , both productively and financially . I can ’ t thank them enough for all they do for the association and its members !
