here is a trend building in the commercial cattle industry that
has been gaining strength and momentum over the last number
of years. Technology and information that in the past was a far fetched
fantasy is on the cusp of becoming part of today’s normal. Limousin
breeders are well positioned to accommodate this movement with the
breed’s superior qualities entrenched, but they must not let one of the
earlier improvements slip.
Disposition and temperament have long been a part of purebred
breeders’ lives, but trials and research into the subject have made it
increasingly relevant for commercial cattlemen as well.
For the Limousin breed, the topic of temperament is old news.
Decades ago, the breed was known for its nervous and flighty animals,
but in the 1990s Limousin breeders committed to the mission of
identifying and improving disposition. It became the number one
