Lockdown has slowed us all down of course but it has also opened up opportunities to educate ourselves, albeit mostly online. The SSS has not been idle in that respect and you will find the first in our "How-to-Series" in this issue.
Artist Nicholas Baker has kindly given us his free time to show us what is involved in the creation of a metal sculpture and we hope you enjoy the course.
This issue is meant to be a bridge, a bridge between the old and the new normal.
Virtual exhibitions might become an intrinsic part of us, on-line workshops and educational opportunities might do too…who knows, just let’s not give up.
Creativity can be our sanctuary and our source of beauty and hope.
Thank you all for your support over the years, it has been an absolute pleasure to be part of this wonderful Society. Long may it continue to offer the members and the public the gift of art.

"Sisterhood is inspired by my own paintings of women where I depict them in bold lines and strong colours, as we are. In the current state of the world, coming together is more important than ever, to support each other and to heal the world. "

welcome
Dear Readers,
It is with sadness and positive anticipation that I write to you today. After 28 years of residency in the UK I have decided to return to Holland, my home country and, as a consequence, I will step down as Chair of the Surrey Sculpture Society. I will leave behind a wealth of friends and esteemed colleagues, but will be packing a huge amount of positive memories.
The sadness of goodbyes will be mixed with positive anticipation around what is going to be the Society’s new normal, my personal new normal and all the opportunities that come with change. To my mind change gives rise to learning and growth.
Thus, this is my last introduction to our wonderful e-magazine, Limited Edition. I have been a witness to its birth in 2016 and have had the pleasure of reading and contributing to its eight issues since. Long may it continue to offer our readership an interesting magazine full of information on SSS exhibitions, outside exhibitions and other sculpture-related news.
At the moment of writing this, the SSS has been in lock-down like everything and everyone else; Covid-19 has grounded life as we knew it to a hold. Now, slowly emerging from this strange time bubble, we are looking around us to assess the damage.
I am very proud to say that the SSS will survive this crisis, both financially as well as physically due to the ongoing support from our members and Friends.
However, our exhibition diary 2020 has been affected, as expected. Our yearly exhibition at Wisley has been cancelled as were many other exhibitions our members usually participate in.
To offer our members some light in these difficult times we decided to compile a virtual exhibition of all the selected works that would have been on show this summer. We are proud to present Unlocking Art 2020 inside this issue.
There is further hope that Savill Gardens at the Crown Estate will be able to be open to the public when we mount our sculpture trail for the third time running in their beautiful grounds in September 2020.
