Dark Side by Denise Jaques

This summer the Surrey Sculpture Society were invited to exhibit for the 21st time at RHS Wisley and, although our show coincided with another of Wisley's big events, our Exhibition Team persevered and managed to stage one of the most successful shows we’ve ever done there, generating over 300 sales (so far).

The Exhibition consisted of over 100 sculptures and visitors following the trail were taken on a voyage of discovery though the cottage gardens and the tropical area, up to the herb garden; all heavily planted areas that we’ve rarely been allowed to use in the past.

Peeking out of the undergrowth there were animals of all shapes and sizes; deerhound, barn owls and mad bunny rabbits all in a variety of materials as well as figurative and abstract pieces that were beautifully sited in different spaces within the various gardens.

The route also wound across the top of the Rose Garden, down through the Bonsai trees (where Angie Doy's Ak Ana, Chokqu and Umai looked perfectly situated). Skirting the edge of the Rockery then down through the Woodland, we had so many new areas to show off our sculptures it really did prove quite a challenge for Carol Orwin, our excellent Exhibition Designer!

Visitor numbers at Wisley are always impressive and this year was no exception. There was fantastic weather for most of our show and Wisley had several late night openings when visitors (and sometimes their dogs too) could enjoy the gardens and sculptures in the different light/atmosphere of the evening.

We’ve had amazing comments from visitors and I’ve had several emails and phone calls from happy customers who have been in touch to thank the Team for an excellent exhibition.

Thanks to everyone who gave up their time to make this such a successful exhibition, its been a pleasure working with you all.
