Limited Edition Issue 15 | Page 2

Welcome

Evening all,

So glad you could make it for the premiere of autumn 2023’s Limited Edition. Grab a seat and I’ll bring round some drinks and nibbles before we start the screening.

Before we start, I thought I’d bend your ear for a moment.

At the time of writing, Savill has just ended and by all acccounts has been very well received – a testament to the crack SSS team’s efforts.     In response to a request from Savill, this year we offered several guided tours of our trail. Michael Joseph has done us all proud and the tours proved very popular – no doubt a precedent that we should aim to continue and maybe expand.

Other than embarrassing Michael a little, I mention this because it caused me to wonder how much I pause to appreciate other artist’s work. I think we all, inevitably, tend to focus on our own output – successes, failures and those “getting there” pieces.

What is the artist trying convey to the viewer? Did they exaggerate an aspect of the piece? Did the

materials contribute to this – more than just being the medium? The list goes on but I had a personal epiphany that even a piece that may not instantly appeal (just being honest!) could well have “hidden” qualities that are revealed with a little effort on my behalf.

I trust I’m not quoting from the Captain Obvious book of things to say about art but if you take some time to explore a piece of art – it really does come to life! Don’t roll your eyes – some of us take a while to catch on!

Anway enough exposure of my shallowness of thought…let’s press play on the latest blockbuster from the LE team – it gets a five-star review from me!

Sending you all the best from me and the committee,

Keep on making your genius – some of us really appreciate it!
