What was so rewarding for me was that the sculpture was inspired by a relationship that was breaking up and they had picked up on the perception of tenderness and tension I was trying to convey.

This year I have done a couple of tours, one at Ramster and another at Standen. Around my neck I have a portable PA system and, in my pocket, some scissors and a bit of thin card to demonstrate the creative process behind making my sculpture.

‘Whorled’ is a simple abstract design to imply spinning movement.

Of course, not everyone is as interested in art as we are. On one tour I overheard a conversation; one man asked another, “do you like sculpture Simon?”; the answer, “it depends.... but I don’t know what it depends on”.

Food for thought!
