School visits

Our third means of engaging in education was through interacting with local schools.  During the week, we were delighted to welcome a number of schools to our exhibition.  The children who ranged from 11-18 in age were treated to a talk when they arrived either from our signature artist, Kate Viner – a professional sculptor who forged her career via a fairly traditional route to become a publicly commissioned artist – or from our Exhibition Designer, Henriette van der Does, who followed a non-traditional route to being a full-time artist but who now not only earns a living from painting and sculpting, but also from her teaching and art psychotherapy practice.  Fascinating for the children and staff alike to hear two such different stories, with some fabulous Q&A sessions to test our speakers’ knowledge.  The children were then invited to tour the exhibition and sketch their favourite pieces.  The quality of the output from the students was of an extremely high calibre and we genuinely hope to have inspired the makers and artists of the future.

Whilst we love exhibiting to the public and engaging with our audience at all our exhibitions, as Exhibition Manager it was particularly enjoyable to be able to offer this extra dimension to the exhibition.  One which we have every intention of replicating in the future!
