welcome
Morning all,
Spring is sprung! A glorious time of year I’m sure you’ll agree, as the world comes back to life. I’ve survived 48 of these so far but I truly think this year has the potential to be one of my top four.
I hope you are all well, getting back into the swing of things after a challenging period and raring to go for exhibiting at our chosen venues in 2022.
For all the obvious benefits of being a member of the World’s greatest Sculpture Society (I did my own research!), I was recently reminded of one the more intangible ones.
It’s that joyous feeling of not being the only bonkers person in the room.
Many of us spend an inordinate amount of time on our own, surrounded by piles of this and buckets of that. Anyone who might pop their head around the door might well be greeted with, “I just can’t get the duck’s feet to point left and now the top-hat has sagged….”

It's at this point that your visitor backs away, gently and quietly so as not to startle the artist in its natural habitat. And suddenly you’re back on your own, mumbling softly and getting on with your own personal genius.
The point is that to be in the company of like-minded people is a joy and an affirmation that you’re not completely mad. Ordinarily there aren’t many opportunities to discuss the minutiae of what we do and we should embrace the chances we get. Not least is the possibility of learning something new and sharing your latest technique with a fellow lunatic.
Whether it be in the carpark of a venue during set-up, at one of our social events (11th June – save the date) or online in the SSS Facebook Circle; I would encourage you all to make new connections – you never know who might inspire your next creation.
I’ll pipe down now and not delay you any further from this new edition of our magazine. As usual it’s full of sculptural interest and, who knows, it may invigorate you to get in touch and share a little of your story. Don’t be shy, we’re a fascinated audience.
Enjoy the shows, enjoy your work and I wish you all success in the year ahead.
