These thoughts from the participants of Michael Joseph’s plinth making workshop tell us just how good this educational experience was for them.

‘I achieved my object which was to find out how to secure a plinth in an indoor setting. By the end of the day I had produced a plinth with all the ’secret” additions to stop it being knocked over or tucked under somebody’s arms and removed.’

Andy

‘Michael was friendly, patient and a mine of information regarding the ins and outs of plinth anchoring and security at indoor and outdoor exhibitions.

Michael’s expertise in woodworking and the cornucopia of tools available made it possible to produce a really professional looking plinth.’

Susan

‘It was great to be guided through the process by a master and to benefit from learning so many tricks of the trade in one day. The workshop exceeded my expectations for sure.

I found it a very enjoyable and rewarding day with other lovely SSS members sharing in the fun of learning by doing.’

Dawn

'Michael's patience, instruction and superb craftmanship skills ensured we all took home a completed plinth at the end of the day, with just the relatively easy things: filling, sanding and painting left to do. I had never used a hand drill before and had negligible woodworking experience -  accuracy, time and care were needed.

The day was fun and interesting, Michael and his wife were very hospitable  and it was good to meet and get to know other members of the society. In future I will be appreciating not just an artwork, but the plinth it stands on with a new level of understanding and respect!’

Claire

‘The plinth making workshop was well planned and easy to follow. Michael has plenty of patience having to teach 5 ladies who have never learned woodwork as a subject at school. I am pleased with my plinth!’
