Inseparable Forms - Rosie Jones

At the end of this we have a list of improvements to work on next year. Each action has a name beside it, and crucially we have agreed key dates for the following year. Once we have worked through this evaluation, the floor is clear for anybody who has anything to add.

During last year’s meeting, one of the sales staff told us about the amount of interest generated by the three pieces located inside the visitors centre. People who weren’t intending to go into the garden but had just popped in for a browse round the gift shop or to visit the café often engaged staff in questions about the art on display. She said that she felt it was a pity that there weren’t pieces on display all year round so that they could promote the next exhibition…… so was born the Sculpture in Residence 2021 at the Savill Garden.

The team at Savill Garden choose four pieces from the exhibition we had just taken down and offered a three month placement within the Visitors Centre for each of the pieces. This started in April this year when the first two pieces were set up for the first three months' placement and then they were replaced by the next two sculptures.  This acted as a teaser for the exhibition to come and we are told that there was a good deal of interest generated.

I think this is a very good example of the value of wash-up meetings involving as many people as possible (not just the managers). The following year close to Easter we have a Kick-Start meeting with the same team. At this meeting we go through the notes from the Wash-up and off we go again with planning our next exhibition.
