Going beyond the garden
How Master Gardeners help educate and enrich all things green across Limestone County

Thanks to an official partnership with library leaders, the Limestone County Master Gardeners are in charge of cultivating the Library Garden’ s good looks while tending to its native-species ethos. But the Library Garden is only a single ingredient in a much richer horticultural recipe: All across our area, Master Gardeners engage the community all year long with a variety of educational, beautification, and environmental programs.
With organizing oversight from the Alabama Cooperative Extension System( ACES), local Master Gardners help feed those in need, offer horticultural training and tips to the general public, conduct educational outreach through an awardwinning library partnership, and even help mitigate urban environmental stressors through partnerships with local institutions.
Here’ s a quick peek at just some of the Master Gardeners’ local outreach efforts in Limestone County:
The charity garden—“ We have a charity garden where we grow vegetables and donate to Community Table and other food assistance places,” says Master Gardener Danita McInier. Like other Master Gardener projects, the charity garden is run by an all-volunteer team drawn from among the organization’ s pool of more than 80 members.
Home visits—“ Anybody who asks for our assistance, we go out and do home visits and help answer their questions,” says Limestone County Master Gardeners 2026 president Tabitha Fiacco.“ If they have landscaping questions or gardening
