591 LIFT-DC members made a commitment to work with LIFT-DC to achieve their career goals. Bridging the Digital Divide in Philly One year after launching weekly digital literacy trainings, Philadelphians LIFT-Philadelphia and its taught essential partners have taught over 1300 Philadelphians basic Internet internet skills skills. The classes are made possible through a partnership between LIFT, the Philadelphia Opportunities Industrialization Center, and Comcast’s Internet Essentials program. 1,349 2013 Highlights LIFT had an incredible year filled with many highs across the country. Here’s a look at some of our favorite moments throughout the year. Chicago Regional Summit The LIFT-Chicago Third Annual Regional Beyond the Bank Summit brought together more than 100 LIFT advocates and community partners to engage in discussion around tackling poverty through social innovation. “Summit reinforced why I LIFT every day,” said LIFT-Chicago Site Coordinator Mini Reddy. In collaboration with the Rightway Foundation, the University of Southern California Joint Education Economy program, and Capital Group, LIFT-Los Angeles hosted Beyond the Bank, a financial literacy workshop series for youth transitioning out of foster care. H U M A N P OT E N T I A LC O L L A B O R AT I O N D I V E R S I T Y Building Leaders Twice a year, LIFT brings together the entire national staff and AmeriCorps Site Coordinators for leadership training. This year, topics ranged from how staff can effectively recruit volunteers and members to how they can deliver more effective presentations. It’s always a time of growth, relationship-building, and development. 75% of LIFT-Chicago members who participated in a pilot of our new member feedback system reported that they are likely to recommend LIFT to a friend or relative. LIFTing Veterans in the Bronx Life presents challenges no matter who you are, but our veterans face unique challenges such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder that not everyone can understand and adequately support. Last fall, in partnership with the Robin Hood Foundation and Single Stop USA, LIFT-New York launched a veterans initiative, which builds on LIFT’s neighbor-to-neighbor approach by pairing veteran members with veteran advocates. 160 veterans have been served by LIFT-New York 472 goals have been set by those veterans 91% of veterans are making progress towards their goals LIFT IMPACT REPORT 2012 13 11
