Relaxing in Paradise... by Wanda Veloz

Our lives are on a very fast pace: work, family, traffic, school, responsibilities. It’ s very easy to stress and difficult to find a peaceful place where to take refuge. For me, it’ s vital to be able to have a space for relaxation where I can unleash my creativity without interruptions( or at least with the least distractions possible). And it’ s taken sitting in front of the computer to write this article to realize that such place for me has a common factor: nature.
Living in the tropics is a real blessing, because then you have the perfect weather to be outside and enjoy nature all year long. That’ s why, when the time comes for me to choose places where to relax, the ones that come to mind have nature as the main star.
¿ The first one? My backyard! It’ s my most frequented place, given that I only have to go down the stairs, open a door and I’ m in a beautiful, magical place where to breathe in peace and of an invigorating and inspiring energy. A great big mango tree gives me shelter( and some amazing mangos twice a year!). It’ s my favorite place to write, because it takes me back to that time in your childhood when everything was magic and imagination. Fairies, goblins, light, love, knowledge, spirit: everything I need is within reach, and I just have to extend my hand. This is where I read, enjoy the breeze, meditate and play with my faithful companion that always sits next to me trying to find ways to entice me: my beautiful dog!
But there’ s other times when I’ m in the mood for something different, and then I move to the place that, even though I’ m naming in second, I can sincerely say that it’ s easily my favorite one …
The sea, of course! In a country where the average annual temperature is 25C, it isn’ t

strange that the favorite place to relax for me( and many!) is the sea, and here we have so many options to choose! It will all depend on how far you want to drive. If you only feel like sitting in front of the sea to listen to the sound of the waves, the Malecón of Santo Domingo is your perfect choice. There you can accommodate yourself somewhere and watch the sunset as life continues around you; or you can enjoy some food, music and entertainment, for there are several options to choose from in that busy street. But, if you’ re one of those people that aren’ t happy just looking at the water, go ahead and escape to one of our amazing beaches! Options? Many!
Whether you feel like driving for half an hour or five, or if you want to head on north, east or west. Direction doesn’ t matter! You have at your disposal beautiful beaches of different shades of blue that go from a deep dark blue to transparent waters that pass through several turquoise colors that are difficult to describe; beaches of soft white sand, soft waves or big waves for surfing, all of them with beautiful coconut trees that will shelter you from the sun when it gets real hot and you need refuge. Visit a Dominican beach and I can assure you that it will be an unforgettable experience. Juan Dolio, Bayahibe, Punta Cana, Bávaro, Salinas Beach, Cabarete, Rincón Beach, Terrenas, Grande Beach … the list is long!
So many are the options of places where to go to relax. Be it in nature in a park, beach or river, in a café or a restaurant, in a mall full of activity; the important thing is to have a space where you can leave stress behind and recharge your energies.
