WHAT CAN I STUDY ?
The following pages are an overview of the main subject areas available to study at university . This is by no means an exhaustive list and there thousands of different courses and combination of courses available but hopefully this will give you a starting point into researching what course is right for you .
Each section is themed to a particular subject area and has a list of the most well-known courses in those areas . If you see an ( A ) beside a subject it means there is an apprenticeship available in that area as well .
There are some university terms you will see on the pages especially to do with the qualifications that the courses lead to . For undergraduate degrees you will see BA ( Bachelor of Arts ), BEng ( Bachelor of Engineering ) and BSc ( Bachelor of Science ). Some courses also have a fourth year allowing you to gain a further qualification called a Masters ( MA , MSc , MEng etc ).
other terms to look out for are :
Fieldwork : Practical work undertaken out in a natural environment rather than in a classroom or laboratory .
Work Placement : Can range from one week to an entire year out of your course in an industry related to your course .
