If I study an art subject at university – what do I do? When you study an art subject at university you are treated as a professional artist from day one. You are expected to be independent and self-motivated though there are lecturers and personal tutors on hand to provide guidance and advice. Depending on the subject, most universities with art-based courses will have studios with 24 hour access so you can work when the ideas come to you. You will also have field trips to galleries( both in the UK and abroad) and guest lectures from artists working in your field.
An art-based degree can be what you make of it. There are often lots of intern opportunities and they often have a professional studio / business for the students attached to the art courses where you can bid on real projects and earn money! Most art courses have a real focus on employability and in fact often have very high employment rates when students have finished their degree because of this.
