LibraryCAT Issue 1

Welcome

We try, with help from tutors, to make sure that the book stock at each centre Library is right for the courses that are taught there, so for example the stock at Tyseley campus will look very different to that at Digbeth! Having said that, you don’t need to worry if the book you want is at a different campus – just ask library staff and they will get it brought to your campus for you. Also, if the book you want is on loan, ask library staff and they will reserve it for you so that the person who has the book will not be allowed to renew it, and nobody else can have it until you have! There’s a lot more besides books to support your course/s. We have fiction (story books) newspapers and magazines at all libraries as well as CDs and DVDs.

We have PCs for student use in all our libraries, and staff on hand to help with logging on, printing, use of Moodle or whatever else students might need help with. You can also print and photocopy in the libraries. The library service makes lots of information available via Moodle, including an online catalogue, online databases and E-books. In fact there’s so much available on Moodle, I think I’d better leave it to the next issue of Library Cat to tell you all about it.

We are all friendly people and we know our stuff, so don’t be afraid to ask us if you are unsure about how to use any of our resources.

So, don’t delay, get round to your college library and see what we can do for you!

Carol West - Library Services Manager

Hello and welcome to a new academic year. This is always an exciting time for library staff, getting to know new students and re-acquainting ourselves with returning ones. This term is especially exciting as we are moving into a fabulous new library at our Handsworth campus. We must apologise for the fact that it wasn’t quite ready for the start of the year, but we are promised it will be open by Half term at the latest.

We have libraries at seven college centres where you can go and study, use a PC or borrow a book.
