How do I find a book?
All physical books have a shelfmark on them and you can find this when you’ re searching for books on Library Search. It shows where the book is, and the floorplans show the location in the building.
Request, request, request
Requesting is the only way to guarantee getting hold of something that is out on loan, otherwise it will be renewed for the current borrower. Requesting also lets us know if we need to buy more copies, so even if you see requests already on an item on loan, please put in your own request. You’ ll need to sign-in to Library Search to make requests.
Library statement
We’ ll always send notices and important information to your Keele email account, including a monthly Library statement to remind you what you have out on loan. If there’ s anything on there you don’ t recognise, please get in touch. You may be invoiced for the replacement cost of loans that are seriously overdue.
What if I can’ t find a book or article at Keele?
If you can’ t find an article: 1. Sign in to Library Search. 2. Search for the article.
3. Under‘ Filters’, select‘ Include results with no full-text’ – the article should now show up.
4. Click the title, then choose‘ Resource sharing’.
5. Read and agree to the copyright declaration.
6. If you’ re happy to pay £ 6 if needed, tick the‘ I am willing to pay …’ box.
7. Click‘ Send request’ – you’ ll get the article by email within 24 working hours.
For books, there’ s a charge of £ 10 and renewals cost £ 4. We’ ll try to obtain the book from the British Library and email you when it’ s available.
