Another traditional yet very symbolic action performed in Spain during the Christmas season, where shoes are filled with straw for the tired livestock that need to journey through the busy night. The next day, shoes are empty as the straw have been eaten by the livestock and replacing the straw are gifts.
On Christmas Day (Navidad), the Spanish begin the day by attending church, exchanging gifts and playing on swing sets that have been purposely set up for a symbolic reason. The higher you swing the closer you are to the sun somehow, in their tradition.
The 28th of December is the feast of the Holy Innocents where young boys are to sweep and clean streets in preparation of a bonfire celebration.
The Spanish Christmas tradition is very symbolic in many ways and shows in many ways the real spirit of Christmas- praising/worshipping God for the birth of His son, and gathering as a family to rejoice as one.
