An issue that is often not discussed in the gay community is stud on stud relationships. There are different roles that lesbians play in the gay lifestyle. Most people in the“ lifestyle” have heard the terms stud / butch, soft stud, femme, no label, versatile …… etc. The“ stud” and“ femme” couple is what we are accustomed to seeing and hearing about.

The community places people in different classifications or boxes. The terms studs and femmes are used loosely in the lesbian lifestyle. People often can identify themselves as one or the other.
The Urban dictionary defines“ Stud” as the more aggressive mate in a lesbian relationship. The typical stud is usually wearing more masculine clothing and has mannerisms that are often considered boyish. The femme lesbian is usually the more submissive person in the relationship and dresses feminine.
But what about the exception to the rule? Are there others who step outside of the box and simply just date who they’ re attracted to, regardless of what label they have?
Lez Elegance Magazine recently sat down with a“ stud” that dates other“ studs” to get some insight into this taboo subject.( The name in this interview has been changed to hide the identity of the person being interviewed.
L E: What’ s your definition of a dominant woman / stud? Crystal: I don’ t really have a definition, I think it’ s all in how a woman carries herself. Dominant doesn’ t always mean masculine, you could just have a more forceful, aggressive type of personality.
L E: What’ s your definition of a feminine woman? Crystal: That’ s even harder to say. I know lots of women who wear feminine clothing but are more masculine than so called“ studs”...
