The Dune of Mount Bromo

The perfect combination of beauty and danger, Mount Bromo is a rare breed of an active volcano that also provides a beautiful sight on its peak. It’ s not Indonesia’ s highest mountain, but it’ s the most popular and it lives up to its name.
The reason why so many tourists are eager to hike the Mount Bromo, despite its history of destructions, is because of the majestic view. Mount Bromo is part of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park that covers an area of 800 square kilometres. Try visiting in the dawn, where the sun is peeking from among the smaller mountains around Mount Bromo. One in particular is Mount Semeru, with its constant eruptions every 20 minutes. Mount Semeru belches out a huge cloud of steam and smoke, sometimes interspersed with ashes and stones, and you can watch all of it from the top of Mount Bromo. All the ashes, combined with the twinkling sunrise, will be a feast for the eyes.
Of course, since the view is otherworldy, it’ s worthy of other worldy history too. The natives around mount Bromo are religious Hindu people with rich culture and‘ untouched’ lifestyle. They believed that Mount Bromo is the result of a brave action from a young royalty, who sacrificed himself in order to save the people around him including the villagers. The young royalty requested the villagers to keep up their manners and give offerings once a month to the mountain, and that resulted in a very peaceful aura around the mountains.•••
