HIGH-SPEED FIBER CONSTRUCTION UNDERWAY IN ARLINGTON NEIGHBORHOODS
High-speed fiber is on its way to Arlington , bringing faster internet speeds to homes , schools and businesses . Laying the groundwork for a high-speed fiber network involves a three-step process that may impact grass and front yards within the public right-of-way .
Phase 1 - Preparation
Prior to construction , fiber providers ’ contractors may place temporary paint and flags on grass , pavement and curbs to mark utilities . Please leave these markings and flags in place for the contractors ’ use . Contractors are required to place notification tags on residents ’ doors several days before construction , and occasional access to backyards may be required when there is a utility easement . It is expected that most construction work will occur out front in the public rights-of-way , e . g ., in the streets and sidewalks , and in yards near the curb .
Phase 2 – Construction
Fiber providers ' contractors will bring trucks and equipment for construction , and they are generally allowed to work from 7:00 a . m . to 6:00 p . m . but may work until 8:00 p . m . during Daylight Savings Time . Residents can expect open holes in the public rightof-way during construction . Contractors are required to erect safety fences around any open holes left unattended . Contractors may cause occasional damage to private irrigation , as these systems cannot be identified through 811 ( Call-Before-You-Dig ) or other utility locate processes . Contractors are required to locate and repair any damage caused by construction activities . Residents may want to consider keeping pets indoors during construction activity if possible .
Phase 3 – Post-Construction
Once construction is complete , fiber providers ’ contractors are required to backfill all holes and restore everything to its original condition or better , including leveling off dirt and sod .
