Citizen Safety Top Priority for July 4th Celebrations
Every year , people across the country experience unnecessary death , injury and / or property damage because of fireworks . To provide residents a quick way of reporting any illegal firework activity , The City of Arlington activated the Fireworks Reporting Webpage Online Tool from July 1st thru July 4th so that residents could quickly report illegal fireworks activity without compromising the 9-1-1 Dispatch Center ’ s ability to take other emergency calls . This reporting tool was made available through a red banner at the top of any City of Arlington webpage , as well as through the City ’ s free Ask Arlington app .

~ 1,020 calls were entered from the webform during its activation
The new Freight Optimization Services Program will introduce a new cloudbased traffic signal technology system in Arlington that will reduce stops and delays imposed to heavy freight vehicles . This program will be deployed on roadways in designated as freight routes and in freightoriented development areas .

According to Public Works Director Keith Brooks , “ The technology works with our traffic management system to provide a few more seconds of green time to allow the heavy vehicle to pass through the intersection without stopping .” Passenger vehicles driving alongside the heavy trucks get the same extended green time , so there are benefits to all vehicles on the main street . This service is designed to save money , time and fuel while reducing emissions .

This technology is successfully deployed for transit and emergency vehicle applications in San Antonio and Austin . The Metroplex area program is being deployed across 500 traffic signals in multiple jurisdictions including more than 100 in Arlington .
