Had this been passed, any incidence of unequal payment, unequal treatment, and unequal opportunities would be protected by the constitution. The Amendment contains three clauses; "Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex. The Congress shall have the power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article. This amendment shall take effect two years after the date of ratification." The amendment simply clarifies the interpretation of "all men are equal" to include women. This amendment was shut down, twice.

We need feminism because the vote is not enough when the only people we can vote for are people who cannot even bring themselves to officially state that women are equal to men.

We need feminism because women are still paid only 78 cents for every dollar made by men.

We need feminism because a man with leadership qualities gets promoted to boss, while a woman with leadership qualities is dubbed bossy or impertinent.

We need feminism because women feel threatened simply walking to their cars at night.

We need feminism because we're supposed to take catcalls as a compliment, to feel flattered rather than objectified.

We need feminism because we teach our girls to cover their drinks, dress modestly, travel in groups, and shout "fire" so someone may actually come to help them, instead of teaching our boys not to rape.

We need feminism because our boys feel horribly guilty if they cry or don't have sculpted, muscular bodies.

We need feminism because the human race cannot keep denying shaming half of our identity, because a house divided against itself will not stand.
