As a matter of fact, monks were the one who compiled all the poems and literature, so a lot of literature works were held on the monasteries, and even though hundreds were written in Latin, the monks monks “began writing in the vernacular language named „Old English‟, often inserting in the Christian context of the texts many of their still strong pagan views” (Golban, 2007).

Old English Period Literature and Writers

According to Golban (2007), there are five types of texts present in the literature of the Old English Period: lyric, epic, chronicles, didactic prose, and charms and riddles, which focus their attention on the pagan life of the Germanic tribes, biblical events, and some others in the translation of Latin literature.
