meet quality standards, and take pride in their work. These are the same kinds of skills Boeing employees use to build airplanes that fly across the world.
“ The students love the fact that their learning is so hands-on,” said Matt Johnson, Core Plus Aerospace instructor at Snohomish High School.“ My students have fun developing real-world skills by making real projects.”
The skills students learn go beyond tools. Students also build important workplace skills like adaptability, accountability, critical thinking, and collaboration.
A Summer Inside a Boeing Factory
One of the most exciting opportunities for students like Elizabeth is the Core Plus Aerospace Student Development Program. This paid summer program gives students an inside look at what it’ s like to work in advanced manufacturing.
Matt describes it as a“ try before you buy” option for a career. The experience gives students an exclusive look at working for one of the biggest aerospace manufacturing companies in the world.
“ I’ ve learned a lot, specifically how to use tools that we don’ t have at my school that Boeing employees use every day,” Elizabeth said.
She also learned important safety and technical standards needed to work on aircraft.
Today, she’ s excited about the idea of working on airplanes and someday being able to say,“ I built that plane.”
