Grant joined an after-school aviation club when he was in seventh grade , thinking it might be fun to learn something about airplanes . Not only did aviation capture his imagination , but suddenly , Grant started thinking about how cool it would be to actually have an aviation-related job .
Grant chose to go to a charter military academy for his ninth grade year to learn about military aviation options . After getting a Young Eagles flight with a pilot from the local EAA chapter , Grant decided to get more involved with EAA Chapter 23 at Bountiful Skypark Airport ( KBTF ) where they are helping him get established as a student pilot . In the meantime , he is completing the Sporty ’ s online youth ground school course .
Through his connection with Chapter 23 , Grant flew with Chapter President Max Cloward to AirVenture 2023 , in a Van ’ s Aircraft RV-7A . While there he volunteered at the Youth Welcome Center and the Aero- Educate Center , where he enjoyed the daily airshows , hundreds of exhibits , and special guest speakers , including meeting Mack Rutherford , the youngest person ever to fly solo around the world at age 17 .
Now in his junior year of high school , Grant continues to work on and complete various activities in AeroEducate . Currently , Grant is ranked first in the world , with 80 activities completed and 16 of 22 badges earned .
