Huntsville , Alabama , is the hub of excellent space activity . The “ Encyclopedia of Alabama ” ( www . encyclopediaofalabama . org ) states , “ The National Aeronautics and Space Administration ( NASA ) has been an integral part of Huntsville and Madison County . Founded in 1958 , NASA first became a presence in the state in 1960 when it established the Marshall Space Flight Center ( MSFC ) at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville . Because of a German researcher named Wernher von Braun , the U . S . made monumental strides in its quest to explore space .”
The U . S . Space & Rocket Center opened in Huntsville in 1970 . Huntsville is known as “ Rocket City ,” which sounds cool and like a fun place to visit . There is the Space Camp campus , with dorm rooms and classrooms . Plus , they have museums and actual spacecraft there !
Boeing donated money to help build a new Space Camp Operations Center , and a Starliner pressure test vessel . The pressure vessel ensures that future Starliner capsules can safely carry astronauts to space . Boeing has been a strong partner with Space Camp in development . According to Patricia Ammons , senior director of public and media relations , many examples of what is happening with space exploration today can be found there .
