Have you ever looked up at the stars and wondered if you could send something into space? What if we told you that students— some as young as 10— have already done it?
Meet the Wolfpack CubeSat Development Team( WCDT), a group of students ages 10 to 18 who are designing, building, testing, and launching real satellites into space before they even graduate from high school!
The Wolfpack Mission
WCDT is the flagship program of the Aerospace and Innovation Academy( AIA). Founded by aerospace educator Kevin L. Simmons, the team gives students unique, real-world space experience and provides opportunities in the aerospace industry to help build skillsets and resumes. Younger students start off in the beginner program SPACE Club for younger students, where they spend a year learning about CubeSats and teamwork before they are invited to join the Wolfpack. But these students don’ t just build models— they build real CubeSats( small satellites about the size of a tissue box) that are launched into orbit by rockets like SpaceX’ s Falcon 9.
