VOX POP In search for his very earning in a filthy tray, poverty poverty po verty and he is one of it’s pray. “Every road, path, office, home, hut, stream and particle of air around us can and must be kept clean” – President Pranab Mukherjee Everyone is aware of sanitation and consequently its relation to health. We should therefore take an initiative in this regard. Our PM. Modi Ji on 2nd October, 2014 gave his dream idea a push by naming it Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The initial idea was propagated by our Father of Nation Gandhi Ji. Modi actually re-launched Gandhi Ji’s idea of cleanliness by giving it a different platform. Ultimately the main aim of the entire concept was to bring India on the map of International scenario of neatness which is admired by all. It also makes citizens productive, creative thereby providing an asset to the nation. Are we really taking this initiative at serious node? Many of us promised that we will devote our 2 hours of a week towards cleanliness are we really doing that? One can easily spot someone throwing chips wrappers, household waste, spitting tobacco gutka and paan on the wall and roads. 1. It’s almost a year and a half to Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, you think is ‘Swachh Bharat’ really Clean INDIA 8 possible? “I believe everything is possible but it requires your efforts, time and hard work. I remember that pledge not to litter and I also respect that. I was present there when Narender Modi and every other person took that pledge, but now it seems that it was just task for that day. I see that Swachh Bharat scheme has been misunderstood. It is not just one player game or one man duty. For making this possible and successful we all have to work together, we all need to collaborate and make this national assignment complete on time. But government too should arrange for public bins, should fine people who litter, who smoke in public and spit paan.” 2. With litter present everywhere, waste from garbage overflowing, defecation in open and there are many other related things. What do you except government should do to deal with all these? “For making India dirty there is a big contribution by every other person. When it comes to government I want them to work on waste management. If there is no proper waste management and waste disposal method, where will those sanitation workers and scavengers keep that waste either in those houses or they will keep that somewhere else and after two three months there will be a small hill. Secondly for open defecation and peeing in open government should impose fines on them and the main thing is they should start building toilets. Thirdly payment to those scavengers and sanitation workers should be on time. Last month only they all were on strike because of their unpaid salaries. They are the key players in maintaining and keeping an area clean, so they should be paid on time. Recall that movement when 9 Clean INDIA they were not there for cleaning your streets, roads, bus stands and then you could easily see that animals excreta and chips wrappers, chewing gums and many other things.” 3. The day when Swachh Bharat came into force many photo ops were done by and of schools and college students, government workers, celebrities and every other person, holding broom and collecting garbage and many people said that these ‘symbolic gestures’ cannot make India clean. How do you see Swachh Bharat as a political drive or national drive? “See for a big thing it requires courage, knowledge and many a times it require money and important thing is you need mass(people). Same goes with Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, it has been launched at national level and many other countries would be now knowing that Indian people are also working for making their country clean. It can be seen as a biased thing but I personally see it as a national drive as it was launchedfor making whole country clean and sanitized. But at last it is we people of India who have to work together to make and keep this country clean.” 4. Our Prime Minister said that he wants to make India clean by 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and wants to give a present of clean India to Gandhiji. Will he succeed in making India clean? “Well most of the people thinks that it’s one man work. People think that he has re-launched this important assignment so it is his responsibility for making India clean. People think it is our PM responsibility he will make his workers clean our streets and though he is doing this and ultimately what
