FireSmart is a Shared Responsibility
Over the past five years, the Lesser Slave FireSmart Committee has made considerable
progress in its efforts to reduce the risk of wildfire. More than 653 hectares of forest in
the region have received treatments such as mulching, thinning and removal of brush in
order to reduce the risk of wildfire and make communities safer. Keep up to date on the
wildfire situation by visiting wildfire.alberta.ca. Follow Alberta Wildfire Info on Facebook
and download the free Alberta Wildfire app from iTunes or Google Play. Follow these
tips to reduce the risk of wildfire in your community and around your home or property.
Clean leaves and needles out of your eaves troughs
Stack your firewood at least 10 metres away from any structures
Dispose of dead and dried up plants
Keep your lawn mowed and watered, and plant fire-resistant plants and shrubs
Make sure your address sign is visible for emergency responders
Have firefighting equipment available: a rake, shovel and hose, sprinkler and ladder
