Lesser Slave River Community Guide Fall 2016 | Page 4

The Reeve’s Report MURRAY KERIK [email protected] cel. 780.349.0518 FALL 2016 | In mid-July, Mayor Tyler Warman, Chief Roland Twin and I pushed a canoe into the water and embarked on a day trip down Lesser Slave River. It’s our annual tradition, and it’s always enjoyable. This excursion gives me some valuable face time with good friends and trusted colleagues. It also provides an uninterrupted solitude that helps me reflect on the summer that was, and the plan for the year ahead. As I think back on the months of summer, I note that we have indeed seen some major milestones in the MD. We celebrated the grand opening of the Canyon Creek Wildfire Legacy Park on Canada Day. The park and playground are the culmination of many months of planning and hard work, and is certain to be a place of enjoyment for generations to come. With this recreation spot in active use, we are now in the process of reviewing proposals to build a new playground to be situated behind the Widewater Firehall. Just weeks prior to the Canyon Creek festivities, I joined my colleagues and municipal neighbours at the grand opening of the Slave Lake Legacy Centre. It’s an exceptional structure to behold, but its real value is the spectrum of social and cultural benefits it will provide everyone in the region. I encourage you to stop by and visit this wonderful facility if you haven’t already. Community Guide 780.849.4888 mdlsr.ca
