Getting to know your neighbors
Spending time outside provides an opportunity for your new neighbors
to meet you without awkwardness or intimidation. Gardening or
beautifying the outside of your home will give you the chance for you
and your new neighbors to become used to seeing each other.
Lend a hand to your neighbor. People often remember what others do
more than what they say. If you notice one of your neighbors could use
some help with something, be proactive and lend some support. It may
mean helping an older neighbor carry in some groceries, or bringing
mail to them if it was misdelivered to your door.
Consider volunteering or joining your community’s board. This way
you will know about rules and regulations that are effective in your neighborhood. If you can, attend a meeting to
find out what it's all about. It's a great place to socialize and meet lots of your neighbors in one spot.
Attend community events. This will help you meet people and show them that you care about what's going on in the
neighborhood. In additon, volunteer at local events in and around the neighorbood .
Meeting your neighbors doesn’t have to be a scary process. Think of it less as networking and more as just a
pleasant way to further ingratiate yourself in your new neighborhood. Be approachable. Allow relationships to
progress naturally, and never underestimate the power of a genuine smile to brighten both your day and someone
else’s.
