A LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR recent National Citizen Survey taken from a representative sampling of Port St. Lucie residents rated the “livability” factor of our City. The phrase “livable community” doesn’t simply mean that Port St. Lucie is habitable, but that it is desirable. It not only ranks where people do live, but where they want to live. The top three ranking services were: The 2018 Citizen Survey reflects that about three- quarters of residents rate the quality of life in Port St. Lucie as excellent or good, which is significantly higher than the ratings reflected in the last Citizen Survey done in the City, in 2009. While we recognize that many of our amenities are favorably reflected in this survey, know that YOUR City of Port St. Lucie Parks & Recreation Department is committed to strategically developing additional events/programs/facilities for your future enjoyment. The Citizen Survey captures residents’ opinions within the three pillars of a community (Community Characteristics, Governance and Participation) across eight central facets of community (Safety, Mobility, Natural Environment, Built Environment, Economy, Recreation and Wellness, Education and Enrichment and Community Engagement). In the Citizen Summary, supplemental questions were asked of the participants. One of the questions asked those surveyed: “What are the top three City services that you would like the City to provide that are not currently being provided?” • Mobility-related services (sidewalks, roads, public transportation) – 48% • Public safety (street lighting, police, crime prevention) – 25% • Public Amenities/activities/recreation – 20% Keep It Clean, Green, Safe & Fun, Sherman Conrad, CPRP DIRECTOR
