recent National Citizen Survey taken from
a representative sampling of Port St. Lucie
residents rated the “livability” factor of our
City. The phrase “livable community” doesn’t simply
mean that Port St. Lucie is habitable, but that it is
desirable. It not only ranks where people do live, but
where they want to live. The top three ranking services were:
The 2018 Citizen Survey reflects that about three-
quarters of residents rate the quality of life in Port
St. Lucie as excellent or good, which is significantly
higher than the ratings reflected in the last Citizen
Survey done in the City, in 2009. While we recognize that many of our amenities are
favorably reflected in this survey, know that YOUR
City of Port St. Lucie Parks & Recreation Department
is committed to strategically developing additional
events/programs/facilities for your future enjoyment.
The Citizen Survey captures residents’ opinions
within the three pillars of a community (Community
Characteristics, Governance and Participation) across
eight central facets of community (Safety, Mobility,
Natural Environment, Built Environment, Economy,
Recreation and Wellness, Education and Enrichment
and Community Engagement).
In the Citizen Summary, supplemental questions were
asked of the participants. One of the questions asked
those surveyed: “What are the top three City services
that you would like the City to provide that are not
currently being provided?”
• Mobility-related services (sidewalks, roads, public
transportation) – 48%
• Public safety (street lighting, police, crime
prevention) – 25%
• Public Amenities/activities/recreation – 20%
