MEENAKSHI ARORA
Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of India
M
eenakshi Arora, Senior Advocate in the Supreme
Court of India since 1985, brings to the table over
29 years of experience and expertise in the field of
litigation and is considered one of the leading counsels in
the country.
In 1984, Meenakshi got enrolled at the Bar, and since 1986,
she has been practising law at the Supreme Court of India.
In 1989, she qualified and became Advocate-on-Record at
the Supreme Court. For a brief period, she also worked
with Goodwin and Soble, an international law firm based
in Washington DC.
In 2010, her name was recommended by judges’ collegium
for elevation as Judge of the Delhi High Court; however,
she later withdrew her consent from the judgeship. She
was more inclined towards working as Advocate and doing

concrete work for the women of the country. She was also
the standing counsel for the Election Commission of India.
In September 2013, a full bench of Supreme Court headed
by then Chief Justice of India P. Sathasivam designated
her as Senior Counsel/Senior Advocate, being only the fifth
woman to be designated so.
A golden feather in her cap got placed when she became
a member of the Gender Sensitization and Internal
Complaints Committee of the Supreme Court. She was
one of the prominent advocates whose persistent efforts
led to the framing of the Vishakha Guidelines, which later
culminated into the legislation of the Sexual Harassment
of Women at Workplace Act, (Prevention, Prohibition and
Redressal), Regulations, 2013.
