HOST BIO For over two-decades Jessica Garrett Modkins has Influenced, Developed, and Built Brands. She is the founder of Hip Rock Star, a trailblazing, award winning, advertising, marketing, and communications agency that focuses exclusively to build today’s socially conscious brands. Under Modkins’ business acumen, Hip Rock Star received the 2017 Key to Miami-Dade from the Beacon Council and Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez for their economic engine fueling Miami-Dade County as well as the 2017 Marketing Firm of the Year from the Black Owned Media Alliance. Hip Rock Star’s primary position is behind the scenes and there is no doubt that you have experienced their Jessica Garrett Modkins work. Whether you’ve read an advertisement on a billboard or bus bench, heard their clients on the hottest talk shows on TV or Radio, read about their clients in a print publication or been to one of their signature events, you’ve witnessed the hip rock star effect. She serves as the Executive Director for the Historic Society; her philanthropic dedication has led to an on-going partnership with the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau for Historic Richmond Heights a South West Miami – Dade community founded in 1949 for Black WWII Veterans by a white man. She directed the documentary, The Richmond Heights 49ers which debuted October 1, 2016. She co-authored the book, Images of America: Miami’s Richmond Heights which was read into the U.S. Congressional record in 2013. As a News Director, she delivered the morning news for Miami’s WEDR 99 Jamz, and was the General Manager for Atlanta based Arrow Records/Universal Records. She has also penned speeches for the Mayor of the City of Atlanta. She most recently was honored as a 2017 Women of Substance by the Miami-Dade County Black Advisory Board, the recipient of The Legacy Miami Magazine Power PR Professional 2016 award and the South Florida Black Journalist Association 2016 Outstanding Woman in Media Honoree. She was named to Legacy Miami Magazine’s 50 Most Powerful & Influential Black Professionals in Business and Industry List for 2015, received a 2015 Certificate of Appreciation from the Miami-Dade County Office of the Mayor & Board of County Commissioners, and a 2015 Outstanding Service Award from the Historic Hampton House community trust. She holds a Master of Science degree in Integrated Marketing Communication from West Virginia University and a Bachelors of Arts degree from North Carolina A&T State University in Broadcast News. She lives in Miami, Florida with her husband Roy and their two children; Dallas Garrett Modkins and Harper Day Modkins.
